07/06/2007 - ECF - European cultural foundation report
We received an e-mail from ECF Esther Claansen, that we have to send final report for the 'Gibanica' project. Since the illegal installment of the new acting manager the project was intentionally obstructed. For more than a year now we are not able to finish the project ... Mrs. PikaPetra Pevec Rituper is not accesible, but we also heard she gave birth and is on maternity leave...we are asking AGAIN, who will finalize the project financed by ECF and write the report? |

06/06/2007 - Court hearing postponed again!!!
Second hearing concerning lawsuit against Association Onej regarding money that Onej stole from Art center. Day before the hearing we received a message that the hearing was postponed again, this time untill september 2007 without any reason! Who wants to delay the process and why? |

05/06/2007 - AiC - Artist in Context programme report
We received an e-mail from Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes, that we have to send final report for the project of Artist in Context. Art center hosted Alexandra Filiatreau (France) and Pawel Dziemian (Poland) through this EU Youth programme. We are asking again: who and how will write the final report and finalize the project? As we said at the eviction ... Mrs. Pika Petra Pevec, now married Rituper, illegaly installed acting manager of Art center and wife of municipality's lawyer who evicted them probably not ... |

21/05/2007 - First court decision in our favour!!!!
We received the first court decision in our favour in the case of exclusion of Association Onej from the Art center institution filed by Municipalities of Moravske Toplice and Šalovci. The court rejected the charge as unfounded because there is no material or legal base. |

19/05/2007 - Arranging the surroundigs of Art center & new thefts!!
The team of Art center and Association Onej, together with friends went to the Art center to arrange the abandoned and overgrown surroundings of Art center. Since nobody is taking care of Art center, we mowed the grass, cleaned the garbage, ...We also found out that there were new thefts - material for the foundry disappeared, two trolleys, ceramic plates and that upper studios were opened. We informed the police. In two days period as we were arranging the surroundings, nothing happened, nobody came to secure the studios. So we locked them ourselves.
So much about taking care of Art center, preventing damage and so on ... The only ones taking care of Art center are the team of Art center and Association Onej and our friends... and our cats who are still there after half of year!!!

17/05/2007 - Opening of exhibition 'Taxi Alaksi' by Alexandra Filiatreau
Opening of the exhibition 'Taxi Alaksi' by Alexandra Filiatreau in Slovene etnographic museum under the French-Slovene spring. Alexandra Filiatreau was on residency in Slovenia through EU Youth programme Artist in Context, run by Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes. In 2005 Art center successfully applied as ahosting organization and thus ran the programme for young artists as the only hosting organization in Slovenia.
Ministry for culture says Art center never showed any artistic accomplishment...

we are sorry Alexandra didn't point out the problematics of Art center but she has enough of the 'local cultural conflict' scene and she wanted to finish her project successfuly.
Or maybe just everybody has full mouth of culture but at the same time nobody cares...

May - June 2007 - Project calls?
As we were saying since the beginning when the problems started, there will be great damage. Because of the events with Art center we now failed at all project calls where we were successful before through all the years of functioning of the Art center. We failed at national project calls from the Ministry of culture, Public fund for cultural activities and National Youth office. |

April - May 2007 - Renovating studio at Metelkova
We thank Metelkova who offered asylum and space for work to the team of Art center and Association Onej. We will call it Studio Asylum! Temporary it will be meant for the team of Art center and Onej (untill we will get back to the Art center). Later it will be used as space for artists as Artist in Residency studio in Metelkova.
First we had to clean up the abandoned space, then we fixed the walls and finished the ceiling and placed cables for the electricity. We built in a roof window, isolated the floors with industrial weed and made wooden floors. Then we painted the walls.
At this time our entrance is shared with our kind neighbour :) but we will build our own. Also, we want to lift a part of the roof, so that the space will be even more bright and airy :) This will be followed with final work with electricity (lights and switches) and equipping the studio (chairs, table, bed, internet access, ...)....).
Most of the materials and equipment were donated, sponsored or given away by a symbolic second-hand price. The team of Art center and Association Onej thanks for voluntary, unpaid and enthusiastic help to many friends. THANX guys! |

17/03/2007 - Buy/sell Art center?
15th March is the hungarian national holiday. The director of the Office for Nationalities in Slovenia mr. Stanko Baluh and member of parliament Geza Džuban, also deputy mayor of Moravske Toplice, vistited the hungarian minority in Lendava and Goričko. They visited Goričko minorities in Dobrovnik and Prosenjakovci. Village of Središče/Szerdahely, where Art center is situated, is also one of the ethnically mixed areas.
The team of Art center still regulary visits the Art center and neighbouring villagers, who tell us news. We've heard that the Hungarian minority representative Tibor Voroš, who is also a member of the board of the Art Center representing the Municipality of Moravske Toplice, brought director of the Office for Nationalities Mr. Stanko Baluh and member of parliament Geza Džuban, also deputy mayor of Moravske Toplice to the Art center. The word is that they would like to buy/sell Art center!?

13/03/2007 - First court hearing - Art center vs Onej
The lawyer of Art center Dejan Rituper, who is also husband of the acting manager of Art center Pika Petra Pevec Rituper, had to prepare lawsuits. Art center is now suing association Onej for theft of cca. 12.500 eur, which is a bluff as all the other lawsuits against Onej.
Mr. Rituper suggested in the begining of the court hearing that both sides should drop the charges (?). Association Onej declined his proposition. Onej answered to his lawsuit with it's own, stating that Art center actually owns this money to Onej, which Onej borrowed to Art center. Mr. Rituper then said he will expand the charges against Onej for stealing cca. 92.000 eur from Art center in 2005...
Mr. Rituper's proof was bank account details which clearly shows that Onej really did borrow the money to Art center and not the opposite!!! The judge then approved to Mr. Rituper another 15 day period to gather proofs about his accusations, and 15 days time to Onej to answer to the new documents. Next court hearing will happen on 15th May 2007.
Since association Onej is main shareholder of Art center the interesting part is:
- actually we are paying 2 lawyers - the lawyer of Art center (which is also Onej), who is suing association Onej and the lawyer of Onej, who is suing Art center
- actually we are suing ourselves
- from this perspective it would be better to drop charges against ourselves?! |

02/03/2007 - Video constellation OIKOUMENE by Pawel Dziemian at the Social center in Rog
"Oikoumene is a permanently inhabited land, with conditions for permanent existence.
Oikoumene is a video constellation representing different appearances of genocide, attempts to homogenize enviroment and extermination.
It consists of two documentary films, searching for evidence of interventions in natural environment and operations on population.
The science doesn't consider terms like ethics. To the contrary, we do.
What does it mean natural environment? Who defines what is the primal shape of the living space? What is our responsibility to the living space?
I don't feel responsible. I cannot get involved in issues outside my environment; therefore, I am keeping distance - in a manner of a scientist with a cool eye, just watching population's moves."

BULL-FROGS : STORY OF AN INVASIVE SPECIES

In the 70's, crazy adventurer brought the bull-frogs from America and put them in his pond in France as pets. He didn't know they are cannibal super-predators who will adapt very well to their new environment and reproduce very quickly. He didn't know they will destroy other species and change the local biodiversity. Association « Cistude Nature » is studying them and trying to find the ultimate plan for extermination of this invasive species.

This documentary film is a record of a trip at the end of november 2006 trough the places where the name Strojan was an explosive material. The aim of this trip was to catch and detect the fears and phobias and the responses to them, that temporarily came to the surface through the scandal around Roma familly of Strojan's. The fears and phobias are allways present, but otherwise lattent and hidden.

They got 2 months in prison or 1 year on parole. Together with our lawyer we will complain to these ridiculous charges - already the proceedure was not according to the law. |

06/02/2007 - Art center in Gallery Srečišče
Between 6th and 26th February the team of Art center Goričko will be in residency at the Gallery Srečišče – Youth Hostel Celica in Ljubljana.
There we are available to anybody interested in residential artistic centres and AiR (Artists in residence) programmes and their realisation in Slovenia.
Slovene Ministry of Culture is actually preparing a project »Establishing residential artistic centres« which will be co-financed from european structural funds in the period 2007 - 2013.
In this time the Team of Art center and Association ONEJ will set up a base inside the gallery, which will be available for anybody who is interested or wishes to cooperate by preparing and creating documents, which could become the base of the project of establishing residential artistic centres and AiR programme. Our wish is that the open gallery space becomes platform for discussions, thoughts and ideas with active involvment. |

25/01/2007 - Interview with acting manager Pika Pevec Rituper
Acting manager Pika Pevec Rituper held an interview on regional radio station Murski Val, in a show called Prva oseba ednine (First person). Ms. Pika Pevec Rituper is misleading the public by spreading lies, publicly blackening Association ONEJ and the team of Art center. She is also spreading lies about guest artists and volunteers who lived and worked in Art center. The team of Art center demands an answer, which is obligatory by the media laws. Also guest artists and ex-EVS volunteers send their statement to the editor of the show and the journalist who did the interview. |

20/01/2007 - Performance "Zmagota z macolo"or "Memorial of slovene national and cultural stupidity"
First let us explain what "Zmagota z macolo" means: Zmago is a male name, meaning Victory, and "z macolo" means with a mallet/stone-cutter's hammer. So we prepared a performance "Victory with a mallet", titled also "Memorial of slovene national and cultural stupidity".
At 13 pm we placed a memorial in front of Art center in Goričko. Ceremony was lead by Dani Kavaš, representative of the religious community called 'Hope without a reason'. The memorial was placed by people from youth club Ambasada (from Beltinci in Prekmurje), Marko Brecelj (DPZN from Koper) and representatives of Onej, who are also joint in a network called Plenum - network of self-inniciated spaces in Slovenia. We also had public - local people. The event was very funny!
In front of the closed doors of Art center we placed a wooden stick, named Zmago (Victory). Zmago is the second memorial and there are more coming... across Slovenia.
With this performance we wanted to show that closed Art center is a sad proof of slovene national and cultural narrowness and show that we do not agree with actions taken against Art center. We left a small trace, which will be renewed and developed ... maybe with placing some lights and signs too :) ...

The team of Art center prepared a lecture under the Triennial of slovene contemporary art U3 'What about tomorrow (U3)?'. We tried to answer the following questions:
1. How to ensure working and living conditions after the finished studies?
2. What are the oppurtunities and conditions for the work of an artist in Slovenia and abroad?
3. How can I realize my personal artistic project - where to find funding, how can I go abroad, prepare an exhibition?
4. What is the attitude of the slovene cultural politics towards contemporary art ?

28/12/2006 - Opening of U3/2006 at the Modern Gallery in Ljubljana
Art center is a part of this years' Triennial of Slovene contemporary art U3/2006. The title U3 (u read in english and 3 in Slovene - meaning Tomorrow) shows the absurd situation of art and artistic inniciatives in Slovenia. The team of Art center places a christmas tree inside the gallery, collecting New years' wishes of the artists and visitors of the exhibition for Art Center. The plan is to give the tree and the wishes to the Mayor of Moravske Toplice :) We also documented the event and interviewed artists what they think about the eviction of the first artistic residential center in Slovenia. And our T-shirts spoke for themselves: ART CENTER ALSO U3!

28/12/2006 - Cultural-artistic show on national TV
Cultural-artistic show on national TV called "Osmi dan" (8th Day) reports about fiascos in the cultural field in 2006. Art Center is one of the main themes of the show. Mr. Vasko Simoniti, Minister for culture is interviewed live and when asked about Art Center situation, his body language shows a lot... and he cannot do anything, he says. With the priorities on mobility of artists and art from EU the situation with the first and only slovenian artistic residential centre doesn't give a very good impression on Slovenia...

24/12/2006 - 1st thefts at abandoned Art Center!
Part of the team keeps on returning to Prekmurje, feeds the cats and reports to the local people about on-going events and actions. In the evening we find a car parked in the dark in frontof Art Center, and our dog Ilonka quickly finds four young men coming out of the forrest. They disappear with our auto-radio and some equipment and also upper studios have opened doors. We still do not know what else is missing since we cannot enter the house. We called police and the local criminalist says we should not come near the house or we will be accused of stealing also! |

20/12/2006 - Report for DG Enlargement project to the EU Comission
Team of Art Center had to prepare urgent report for the EU Comission project of 25 animations "Enlarge the funny side of Europe!" . Mrs Pika Petra Pevec Rituper did not react on our requests for authors honoraries, sign the reports etc. since her illegal instalment in March 2006. Therefore EU Comission was informed about the situation, and the matter will have to be solved on court. Since Slovenian courts work slowly this means years and years ... and untill then we can just wait and hope EU Comission will react.

18/12/2006 - Meeting at the Ministry for space and environment
Art center team went on a meeting at the Ministry for space and environment . Main reason for our eviction was that the Art Center building does not have working permit therefore the Municipalities lawyer sent inspection which charged Art Center a fine of 1270 euros. The working team of Art Center and Onej were evicted for causing material damage which the Municipality used as a proof for the court. We went to the Ministry ... to check the law about the permits for buildings built before 1976 which the main house of Art Center as a former Yugoslav army guard house was. For these kind of buildings the permit is not needed. The Ministry responded they will check the laws and answer in the beginning of January 2007. If this is true then the working team can return to the Art Center and the lawsuit for eviction is withdrawn. |

14/12/2006 - Report of latest events in Youth Hostel Celica in Ljubljana
On the same day as Pawel was evicted and left from Hodoš for Poland, we drove back to Ljubljana and prepared an upadeted presentation in world's famous Youth hostel Celica in Metelkova, Ljubljana. |

14/12/2006 - Eviction of Pawel Dziemian, artist from Poland
Together with the team of Art Center also Pawel Dziemian, artist from Poland, who was living and working in Art Center as a part of his Artist in Context programme, is evicted. He was allowed to come and pick his belongings in Art Center after 14 days of requests to illegal acting manager Pika Petra Pevec Rituper. Finally, the polish embassy in Slovenia enabled his entrance. He was guided by security employee who was insulting him - Pawel documented the happening inside, while the team was filming outside. We placed banners on the front of the building - ARTISTS ARE NOT WELCOMED IN SLOVENIA! Also national TV was present.

07/12/2006 - Press conference at the Modern Gallery in Ljubljana
On 7th December 2006 at 11 p.m. the team of Art Center prepared a press conference at the Informational center in Moderna galerija in Ljubljana. We presented the latest events and tried to explain the whole story of Art Center from the beginning till now. We also showe documentary shows (production Art Center). The response was very positive. At 6 p.m. we also organized a lecture (about the activities of residential centres, presented Art center) and a round table. Discussion was very constructive. We talked about possible solutions and especially gathered ideas for direct actions. |

01/12/2006 - PROTESTS PART I
On 1st December 2006 at 1 p.m. we gathered in front of the Municipality of Moravske Toplice where we presented our standpoint and joint resistance against the local government and their intolerant and ignorant politics. Local government deliberately disables spaces that not only bring sustainable development into this deprivileged region in Slovenia, but also development of art and culture on local as on the national and internetional level. Our visions were supported by letter of the villagers from Središče and representatives of different youth, cultural and social centres from all over Slovenia. Their statements why they support Art Center and it's team were clear and spread through the media.
01/12/2006 - PROTESTS PART II
At 10 p.m. the supprters and friends of Art Center from DPZN youth center from Koper, Metelkova mesto and temporary users of Tovarna Rog from Ljubljana, Izbruh from Kranj and members of Erased people entered Art center through an open window.
Police didn't allow the media to approach the Art Center building and violently entered Art Center violating all possible police laws, without any legal court order. Supporters and the team of Art Center in front of the building demanded the court order and eviction from the police , which stated that they have authority from the owner. When we asked who the owner of Art Center may be, Tibor Voroš, member of the board of the Art Center representing the Municipality of Moravske Toplice, answered. He didn't show any legal paper or authority from any of the establishers of the Art Center nor the board of Art Center. Members of the Onej association gave the establishment papers of Art Center to the police where it is transparent that Onej is the main shareholder/establisher. We asked which owner they will listen to. But no answer.
Also Tibor Voroš was allowed inside the Art center where arrests were taaking place. 9 people from different youth, cultural and social cenres were arrested. After the arrests Tibor Voroš stayed inside the building and eyewitnesses stated that he was measuring the kitchen and main room. Here we have to mention that Tibor Voroš has been publicly stating that he wishes to transform Art Center in a wine cellar.
In case of Art Center - with this eviction without any prior notice, police intervention without any legal court order and without authorization of the owners of the Art Center - it was made clear that police and administration of justice takes illegal and biased actions.
We support the work of non-governmental organisations and individuals who work in the non-governmental sector. We support all people who recognise the value of voluntary work, who oppose the capitalist logic in any way possible, who oppose the rigidness of political systems and micro-nationalisms. We will continue to fight for free spaces, the right to artistic expression with a responsible social attitude. |

30/11/2006 - TEAM OF ART CENTER WAS EVICTED !
On November 11th 2006 at 10 am, after a long-lasting siege (access to our own bank account and telephone denied, contracts deliberately unsigned and bills unpaid, etc.) the active members of Art Center Središče were met by a court messenger and his companions: eleven policemen, a locksmith, Sintal security service, a property register, a veterinarian and two witnesses (residents of village Sredisce). The court order they brought stated that Art Center Središče can be evicted by any means necessary, and without prior notice. We were forced to take our personal belongings and clear the rooms in Art Center. Our dog was taken away. The only inhabitants left are our six cats. Since 2 pm, the property of Art Center Središče has been abandoned after six years of on-going projects and activities.
The eviction was well prepared. Two days ago we were visited by a local police representative who came to see how many people were currently staying here and how many of us were foreigners. A week before that, we lost our internet connection since our phone line has been permanently disconnected by our newly-installed director, Ms. Pika Petra Pevec. All means of communication with the rest of the world were intentionally disabled. Art Center Središče is located between two small villages in the far North-East of Slovenia, by the Hungarian border - away from (almost) all eyes...
The initiator of our eviction is the Community of Moravske Toplice and its Mayor, Mr. Franc Cipot. Even though the Community of Moravske Toplice is one of the founders of Art Center, Mr. Franc Cipot was eager to tell Radio Val 202 that the Community has invested nothing in the development of Art Center since 2000. In spite of this, he has taken the privilege of illegally taking over the Art Center and appropriating everything we created with countless hours of voluntary work. He takes this privilege as if granted, despite the active members of Art Center and other members of Association Onej representing the founding majority with 66% ownership, and regardless of the fact that we have successfully been running the Art Center as a residential centre for six years, initiating the projects listed below (amongst countless others); without any assistance from the Municipality of Moravske Toplice:
1) Youth Centre (financed by Republic of Slovenia's Office for Youth)
2) Multimedia Centre (financed by Ministry of Culture and European Foundation for Regional Development)
3) European Voluntary Service (EU programme Youth)
4) other EU projects (DG Enlargement in ECF-European Cultural Foundation)
All these contracts were signed by Art Center Središče; the same Art Center that successfully evicted its own place on November 11th 2006 to protect its property. The new leadership of Art Center deliberately obstructs the functioning of its own space and thus works against itself; not to mention that one of the above projects is worth more than 30.000 Euros. They have evicted their own people; the people who have been taking care of Art Center's development and artistic production since 2000.
The active members of Art Center Središče demand the following answers to the following questions:
- Who will answer for the damage caused, due to the obstruction of the functioning of the Art Center, and also for the obstruction of the execution of EU projects with the mentioned above contractors? Damage is not only material – Art Center is facing overall ruins because of distrust!
- Who will take care of artists- volunteers from Poland and France that have a contract with Art Center to live and work there for 9 months? Who will answer to the European Comission, who are financing this Youth programme? Who will answer to sending organizations of the programme, who send the volunteers to Slovenia and Art Center for this volunteer service?
- Who will repay the damage that was caused to numerous co-workers and partners in the above-mentioned projects, to whom the official directors of Art Center do not want to pay authors’ honoraries for their finished work?
