Art center news

Legal/formal matters
It has been two years since the beginning of May that we have brought Art center back to life. But still we haven't managed to reach minimal working conditions required - this will happen only after we sign a contract with the Ministry of Culture about usage of the Art center premises.
In summer 2009 the government of Republic of Slovenia decided that Art center's activities should be maintained and therefore provided financial support to repay the debt of the Public fund for regional development. In exchange for the pay-off Art center had to give up the ownership of the premises. Since Art center was facing a public auction, we accepted this condition. The contract between the Public Fund, Ministry of Culture and Art center was signed in December 2009 (read more here). Our agreement with the Ministry of Culture about the usage of the premises was supposed to follow shortly after the aforementioned contract, but it didn't happen until the present day. Reasons for the withdrawal of the agreement remain unknown.
This situation (formal indistinctiveness, continued insecurity, etc.) unfortunately holds back all the activities Art center is meant for. Therefore we are mainly working on reaching agreement with the government; to enable further independent functioning of the institution and to ensure freedom of expression.

Co-operation
The contract with the goverment includes also co-operation of Art center with faculties and the Office for youth. Art center has established these connections in the past (intensive workshops with students of the Academy of fine arts and design, field work of the Ethnology and cultural anthropology studies, summer school of feminism with students of the Philosophy, etc.). Our wish is to continue with these activities, upgrade them and include them in the study plan. We are also discussing possibilities of co-funding with the Ministry for Higher Education.

Renovation
With spring a lot of outside activities at the Art center start: cutting grass, gardening... and preparing the wood for winter. Our main help came from ecological farm and employment center for voulnarable groups Korenika from nearby village Šalovci, friends Bojan from Križevci and Simon from Domanjševci and many more... TNX!.

In the past few months we up-cycled old computers we got from the Peace Institute, Ljubljana, and managed to put together two working computer stations. We also up-dated two computers for audio and video editing, catalogued library, painted the office, built-in oven for heating/fireplace. We are currently working on installation of shelves for the library and office/editing room.

Voluntary work/Help needed

We are organizing a voluntary action at the Art center... this time we'll be chopping wood (ooops, a mountain of wood!).
If you have blisters from sitting behind computers, would like to get rid of stress or agresiveness in a constructive way or just give us a hand, we invite you to join us!
For more info, contact us on our e-mail.
Modest residency, good food, drinks and pleasant company will be taken care of!

Social center, ROG Factory; Ljubljana
"Last weekend in April the activistst of Social center Rog from Ljubljana had an organizational week-end in Art center. The need of such an event came from a fact that the collective of the Social center expanded in a relatively short period of time, therefore an organized work week-end was necessary to prepare further guidelines and to cristalize vision of our work in the future. At the same time we had to reflect upon our past activities; 'retreat' to Goričko also presented a possibility to step back and look at the intensive activity of the Social center in Rog of the past few months. During the visit we had 4 intensive meetings about the aforementioned themes and re-charged our batteries for further actions."
